But once you figure it out, you end up loving all of them and getting invested in all their plots. And I think the trouble is that there’s a lot of ongoing plots intertwining in both books, so it’s even harder keeping them all straight and knowing who is doing what. Lair of Dreams is one of those sequels that doesn’t really provide a summary of what happened in the last book, so you might want to either read the first book before starting this one, or do what I did and read the summary.

After that, I found it much much easier to read. Actually, at some point (about fifty pages in), I gave up and looked up a summary of the last book just so I could remind myself about all the characters and what they’d been through. Maybe it was because I read the last one too long ago, but I was struggling to remember who had what abilities, and what everyone’s stories were. I know this is part of a series, but I had a hard time getting back into this book.

I suppose what helped was that we got her whole story in this book, rather than in the last one. Basically, she’s awesome, and I hope you enjoy her too. She’s a very different character from all the others, way more into science than anything, and her attempts to unite both her dreamwalking and logic make for a fascinating contrast. Lair of Dreamsis the second novel in the Diviners Series by Libba Bray (I reviewed the first book, The Diviners, here). When he runs into a fellow dream-walker, it seems that finally there’s some hope to his mission.Ĭan the characters band together and discover what the source of the Sleeping Sickness is? And can they escape the lure of the dreams and nightmares themselves? Sam is closer than ever to discovering what really happened to his mother, Jericho finds himself conflicted about his next steps, Memphis is testing out his returned power, and Theta finds herself worried about Henry, who has recently been spending every moment he can walking through dreams, hunting for an old flame. Meanwhile, Evie has gained fame as the Sweetheart Seer, performing readings over the radio. This series of deaths is spreading, and nobody knows how to stop it.

Known as the Sleeping Sickness, it causes people to remain asleep, dreaming, unable to wake up.
